2012 Canadians: Novice Women win Team BC's first medal!

Four young ladies from Omega captured Team BC's first medal, a silver, at the 2012 Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Regina yesterday. The team, comprised of Angel Zhong, Seina Murase-Cho, Samantha Haghighat-Joo and Haley DeJong, scored a total of 207.850 points behind the team from Ontario and ahead of bronze medalists Alberta.

Individually, Zhong was 2nd in HP Novice qualifying followed by Murase-Cho in 5th, Haghighat-Joo in 7th and DeJong in 13th.

In other artistic gymnastics competition on Wednesday, Darren Wong (Phoenix) is the top BC athlete after Day 1 of the HP Argo competition in 6th. Other competitors are Chris Kaji (Richmond, 19th), Nicolas Cruz (Marble, 21st), Dawson Friesen (Twisters, 25th), Cohen Kiers (Twisters, 33rd), Adrian Kask (Kerrigan, T35th) and Addyson Cheladyn (Kerrigan, 41st).

On Day 1 of the HP Tyro competition, Nicolas Garfias (Twisters) stands 6th followed closely by Aaron Mah (Phoenix, 7th), Colin Schuler Ram (Kerrigan, 8th) and Alex Farquharson (Delta, 12th).

Vladimir Djuric (Richmond) was BC's only competitor in the men's National Open competition placing 11th All Around. Joe Odland of Alberta won the gold. Djuric will compete again later this week in event finals.
