Team Canada captures bronze, Zachary Clay eighth-place on high bar

GLASGOW, Scotland – BC’s very own Zachary Clay and Scott Morgan were two members of Canada’s powerhouse gymnastics team, winning the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Other members of the team include Kevin Lytwyn of Stoney Creek, Ont., Nathan Gafuik of Calgary, and Anderson Loran of Saskatoon.

Team England ran away with the gold medal with a score of 266.804, Scotland took the silver with 257.603 and Canada clinched third spot with 252.087.

Morgan came up with the Canadian squad’s best result for the second straight day with a second place finish on vault, while Clay and Lytwyn both finished top eight on the high bar and parallel bars.

Clay, in his second year on the senior team, exceeded expectations with his eighth-place on high bar.

“It’s one of my weaker events and it was a big surprise to make the final,” said Clay.

“I was super focused and I just rocked it today. It’s the best I’ve ever done on high bar in international competition."
