Summary:

We are looking for a dynamic, creative, and innovative coach who will interact positively with athletes and parents while also developing relationships internally with our staff and externally with our community. You should be a team player with a demonstrated ability to develop athletes from 6 years of age through compulsory levels and to develop athletes from 10 years of age through progressions and levels up to and including national levels.  The successful incumbent should be professional, organized, interpersonal and a dedicated coach with a solid knowledge of the Junior Olympic requirements, technical knowledge and the Code of Points in women’s artistic gymnastics.

This position is offered as full-time (40 hours per week) with approximately 60% of these coaching hours designated to women's artistic gymnastics and 40% coaching time designated to other program coaching (High School and advanced gymnastics programs).

 

Responsibilities and Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

  • Is an enthusiastic, responsible, and a reliable team player.

  • Ability to work flexible hours and evening/weekend when required.

  • Demonstrate a professional attitude and is a role model to both staff and participants.

  • Plan and prepare - with your knowledge of skills progressions, athletes learning processes and individual goals, develop lesson plans that motivate and prepare athletes for competitive events. Demonstrate ability to be creative and innovative in planning. Provide input into athlete development plans. Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and activities.

  • Management and Class Environment - create a safe, respectful, engaging and social environment that establishes a culture of learning, where the athletes achieve goals and strive for personal excellence. Maintain the expected standards of program participant behaviour and enforce rules of KGTC.

  • Communicate and engage participants in learning by using positive reinforcement and encouraging feedback that builds trust and fosters a positive training environment. Superior proven relationship building and communication skills; comfortable speaking, emailing and phoning parents, children, coaches and coordinators.

  • Has experience mentoring individuals, groups, and coaches.

 

Essential Requirements

  • National Coaches Certification Program (NCCP or equivalent) Level 2 completed or in the process.

  • Passionate about physical literacy and an active and healthy lifestyle.

  • Understanding of the Long Term Athlete Development Plan (LTAD).

  • Must be able to bear weight as required to spot or support athletes of all ages and abilities.

  • Must be able to be physically active including (but not limited to) movements such as: rotation, squatting, lifting, holding and others as required.

  • Must be able to navigate the gymnastics facility with ease.

  • Excellent understanding and demonstration of class management and behavior management.

  • Ability to use computers systems and programs for payroll, emails, attendance and progress reports.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Education in relevant fields.

  • Judging certification.

  • Previous participation in the sport of gymnastics.

  • Experience developing athletes from pre-competitive to national level

  • Conflict management skills.

 

Technical Requirements

  • First Aid Certification. At time of issuance these are valid for a 3 year term.

  • Respect in Sport (RiS) and Making Ethical Decisions (MED) - online courses.

  • Police Record Check (PRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) for ages 18 and over. At time of issuance these are valid for a 3 year term.
