2012 Canadians: Silver for Steven Chaplin and Bronze for Robert Watson

B.C.'s men's artistic gymnasts won two all around medals yesterday at the 2012 Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Regina. Robert Watson (Richmond) captured the bronze medal in the senior men's competition. Alberta's Nathan Gafuik won the gold with Jayd Lukenchuk winning the silver.  Jason Scott (Richmond) was seventh, Kal Nemier (Flicka) was ninth and Devy Dyson (Richmond) was 12th.

BC's other competitors were event specialists Scott Morgan (Flicka) and Ken Ikeda (Twisters). Morgan, who was BC's flag bearer for the opening ceremonies, was first on floor exercise and rings and second on vault. Ikeda topped the field on pommel horse and was second on parallel bars and tied for fifth on horizontal bar.

In the men's national youth competition, Steven Chaplin (Twisters) won the silver medal in the all around competition. His score of 72.250 put him just behind Thierry Pellerin of Quebec) who scored 72.750. Michael Sibley (Flicka) was 8th and Brian Lau (Richmond) finished in 13th. Event finals take place on Friday.

Zachary Clay (Twisters) leads the field after day 1 of the junior men's competition, just ahead of Matthew Halickman of Quebec. Joshua Stuart (Richmond) is in 5th,  Scott Nabata (Kamloops) is 6th and Julian Geisler (Delta) is 7th. Competition concludes on Friday.

BC's top HP argo following the 2-day competition was Darren Wong (Phoenix) in 6th. Other competitors were Nicolas Cruz (Marble, 19th), Dawson Friesen (Twisters, 26th), Chris Kaji (Richmond, 27th), Cohen Kiers (Twisters, 28th), Addyson Cheladyn (Kerrigan, 30th) and Adrian Kask (Kerrigan, 42nd).
