BC Makes Waves at 2017 International Gymnix

Rio 2016 Olympian Shallon Olsen (Omega) made her mark at the 2017 International Gymnix competition in Montreal, finishing strong in both the team and individual finals. In the individual all-around, Olsen won the silver medal score of 53.401, and also helped Team Canada 2 finish with 157.070 points to capture team bronze.

In the apparatus finals, Olsen edged out seven-time Olympian Oksana Chusvotina of Uzebekistan for the gold medal in vault with a score of 14.500. The Omega athlete also took home the bronze medal in the floor final, finishing 0.010 points behind Megan Roberts from Toronto.

Many of Canada’s junior gymnasts competed at Gymnix for the first time, gaining invaluable experience for future international competitions.

Junior Team Canada, including Lucia Jakab of Okanagan Gymnastics, narrowly missed the podium in the all-around team competition, finishing in fourth place with a score of 153.804. Team Canada West, including Imogen Paterson of Vancouver Phoenix Gymnastics, finished just behind Team Canada East in seventh place.
