B.C's Shallon Olsen among the top Canadian women gymnasts set to compete at L'International Gymnix in Montreal

Shallon OlsenGymnastics Canada - Many of Canada’s top female gymnasts will go up against some tough competition this weekend at the L'International Gymnix meet in Montreal.

While reigning Canadian all around champion Ellie Black of Halifax (Alta) leads the way in the Gymnix Challenge senior individual event, Shallon Olsen (Omega) heads up a strong group of younger competitors aiming for the podium in the Junior Cup team competition.

Olsen, who won her second straight national title last year, will be joined on the junior squad by Megan Roberts of Toronto, (East York Gymnastics), Audrey Rousseau of Montreal, (Equilibrix), Meaghan Ruttan of Calgary, (Calgary Gymnastics Centre), Sydney Townshend of Waterdown, Ont., (Revolutiion) and Rose-Kaying Woo of La Prairie, Que., (Gym Richelieu)

They can expect stiff competition going up against teams from Romania, Russia, Italy and Belgium.

The seniors get into action on Friday with qualifications and the juniors take the floor on Saturday with finals on Sunday in both events.

Over 800 athletes in age groups from novice to senior are expected at this year’s L’International Gymnix with competition running through Sunday.
