Kyna Fletcher to be inducted into Burnaby Sport HOF

Kyna FletcherGymnastics BC Life Member Kyna Fletcher will be inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame in February along with six other individuals and a pioneering lacrosse team.

As a gymnastics coach, Kyna had a remarkable impact on many of BC’s gymnasts. From her days in Campbell River to her long-standing relationship with Vancouver Phoenix Gymnastics, she has worked diligently to bring out the best in her athletes. She has worked with provincial, national and high performance level gymnasts throughout her career. In addition to their success in B.C., with Team BC and Team Canada, several athletes have earned NCAA scholarships.

At the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, Kyna was the architect behind Canada’s five member Women’s Artistic Gymnastics team’s best ever finish. The girl’s fifth place overall finish not only made history but brought tremendous pride and excitement to the gymnastics community nation-wide.

Kyna’s accomplishments have earned her several Gymnastics BC awards including the 2006 Sev Heiberg National Stream Coach of the Year; she was named a Member of Distinction in 2010 and a Life Member in 2014.

She’ll be joined for induction in the coach category by Mimmo Morello (soccer, wrestling). Athletes to be inducted are Russ Heard (lacrosse), Brian Cowie (paracycling, triathlon) and Anna Schnell (rugby) while  Roy Nosella (soccer) and Dan Taylor (baseball) will be going in as builders.The pioneering 1934 Burnaby Cougars provincial champion women’s lacrosse squad will be inducted into the team category.
