Morgan and Ikeda Win Silver at Calgary International Cup

The Canadian men’s gymnastics team overcame injury and walked away from the University of Calgary International Cup with four medals in total. The competition took place on the heels of the last chance Olympic qualification event taking place next month in Rio.

Leading Team Canada were BC veterans Ken Ikeda and Scott Morgan, who won silver medals on parallel bars and rings. Jackson Payne of Edmonton and Sam Zakutney of Ottawa won bronze on pommel horse and high bar.

After the competition, national men’s team director Tony Smith announced the 7 athletes selected to join his Rio-bound team. Ikeda, Morgan, Payne and Zakutney made the cut and will be joined by Anderson Loran of Saskatoon, Rene Cournoyer of Repentigy, Que., and Hugh Smith of Halifax.

Stay tuned for the artistic gymnastics Olympic qualification event on April 16-18.
