Shallon Olsen Places 8th in Women's Vault Finals in Rio

Shallon Olsen of Omega Gymnastics had a historic run at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. As the first Canadian to successfully perform an Amanar vault, Olsen has raised the bar for what Canadian gymnasts can achieve at the high performance level.

On Sunday, Olsen competed at the vault apparatus finals, finishing in 8th place with a total score of 14.816 for her two vaults. While she didn't get the podium finish that she was hoping for, advancing to the vault finals at only age 16 is in itself a huge win for Team Canada—and the athlete herself.

Isabela Onyshko of Manitoba will conclude the gymnastics competition for Team Canada today in the balance beam final.
