Shallon Olsen wins second junior Canadian title | Silver for Robert Watson

Team BC's Shallon Olsen (Omega) won her second straight junior women's Canadian title on Thursday at the 2013 Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Ottawa. Olsen placed first on floor and vault and 8th on both uneven bars and beam for a score of 55.475 points as she edged Aleeza Yu (Ontario) and Brianna Clark (Ontario).

Angel Zhong (Omega) was 13th all around while Taylor Chan (TAG) and Samantha Haghighat-Joo (Omega) competed on three events each.

Second medal for Team BC

In the men's senior competition, Robert Watson (Richmond) won the silver medal, just 0.150 points behind Canadian champion Hugh Smith (Nova Scotia). Bobby Kriangkum (Alberta) was third.

Kal Nemier (Flicka) was seventh, Zachary Clay (Twisters) was 12th, Devy Dyson (Richmond) was 13th, Joshua Stuart (Richmond) was 17th and Scott Nabata (Kamloops) was 19th.

Also competing were event specialists Scott Morgan (Flicka) and Ken Ikeda (Twisters). Morgan was first on rings, second on vault and fifth on floor exercise while Ikeda tied for fifth on parallel bars, 17th on pommel horse and tied for 19th on vault.

Two senior titles for Nova Scotia

2012 Olympian Ellie Black captured the women's senior Canadian title with Natalie Vaculick (Ontario) in second and Megan Chang (Ontario) in second.

Team BC's Briannah Tsang (Flicka) was 10th and led the field on vault. Taylor Ricci (Flicka) was 12th and Nicole Chow (TAG) was 14th.

Bronze for Team BC's men's youth team

Team BC won a bronze medal in the men's youth team competition. Led by Michael Sibley (Flicka), who finished fourth, the team was just behind Ontario and Quebec.

Nicolas Bourne (Richmond) was 10th, Cameron Stanley (Langley) 15th, Kevin Naismith (Langley) 16th, Liam Dawson (Okanagan) was 18th, Cohen Kiers (Twisters) was 24th and Dawson Friesen (Twisters) was 27th.

Other Team BC results

Darren Wong (Phoenix) finished fifth in the men's argo competition while Chris Kaji (Richmond) was 14th.

In the women's national open team competition, Team BC finished fourth behind Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba.

In the national open 13-15 age group qualifying, Ashlynn Skulstad (Twisters) as 12th, Atzin San Roman (Phoenix) was 13th, Alannah McPherson (Langley) was 15th and Jordan DeJong (Flicka) was 19th.

Itzia San Roman (Phoenix) was the top Team BC qualifier in the national open 16+ age group, finishing ninth. Brianne Kerr (Lion's Pride) was 22nd, Maya Rahn (Lion's Pride) tied for 23rd, Andry Friesen (Twisters) was 26th, Micayalla Broadway (Duncan) was 33rd and Stephanie Bedry (Langley) was 34th.
