Team BC Takes National Stage at 2017 Canadian Championships

BC athletes were unstoppable at the 2017 Canadian Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Montreal from May 25-28. With Canada’s top artistic gymnasts in attendance, competition was certainly fierce, however, BC athletes rose to the occasion to bring home 27 individual medals and 3 team medals in total.

The senior men’s team (Aaron Mah, Scott Morgan, Scott Nabata, Xuon (James) Luo and Zachary Clay) led the pack, winning 10 medals overall. Zachary Clay of Twisters Gymnastics topped the field, winning the senior men’s All Around title as well as gold on vault, silver on pommel horse and rings, and bronze on high bar. 2016 Rio Olympian Scott Morgan (Flicka) also finished strong, tying for first on floor with Aaron Mah (Vancouver Phoenix) and first on rings alongside Xuon (James) Luo (Delta).

On the women’s side, 2016 Rio Olympian Shallon Olsen (Omega) won the gold medal on vault, her best apparatus. Olsen competed alongside fellow Rio 2016 Olympians Rose Kayen Woo, Elsabeth Black, Isabela Onyshko and former GBC athlete Brittany Rogers.
