This past Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Gymnastics BC community gathered at the Element Vancouver Metrotown Hotel to celebrate the achievements, dedication, and contributions of the 2025-26 season. The 2026 Gymnastics BC Awards and Scholarships Celebration was a night full of inspiring stories, heartfelt recognition, and well deserved honours for athletes, coaches, judges, volunteers, and community leaders from across the province.

2026 Scholarship Recipients

Each year, Gymnastics BC proudly provides financial support to student athletes pursuing post secondary education. Scholarships are awarded based on athletic and academic accomplishments, community involvement, gymnastics background, reference letters, and personal essays. This year, five outstanding recipients were recognized.

Alicja Kwasniak (TAG Sports Centre)
Twelve years into her trampoline career, Alicja earned bronze on senior double mini at Canadians this season and holds a place on the Senior National Team, with selection to represent Canada at the World Age Group Championships in Nanjing. A graduate of Port Moody Secondary with a ninety four percent average, she coaches and judges at the provincial level, volunteers weekly at a local nursing home, and co-founded a community running group. She heads to the University of British Columbia with the goal of becoming a physician.

Taelyn Stuve (Chimo Gymnastics Club)
Taelyn began at Chimo in parent and tot classes and went on to become the first athlete from her club to qualify for Westerns and the first to compete at Canadians. This season she finished third all around at Canadians and was crowned Canadian Champion on beam. She graduated with a ninety five percent average and now coaches at the club that raised her. She will study kinesiology at the University of Victoria.

Anastasia Korenkova (TAG Sports Centre)
After more than a decade in artistic gymnastics, Anastasia moved to trampoline and tumbling two years ago and has since become a two time Provincial Tumbling Champion, a Canadian Champion, and an Elite Canada Champion. She coaches at her club, helps organize competitions, and mentors younger students. She attends Simon Fraser University to study biomedical physiology.

Quentin Foster (Twisters Gymnastics Club)
A MAG athlete of more than ten years, Quentin finished third with his National Open team at Canadians this season. He coaches, judges, and away from the gym plays in his school drumline, concert band and jazz band, as well as a community wind ensemble. He is studying English Literary Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley with the goal of becoming a high school English teacher.

Daniel Delf (Delta Gymnastics Society)
A two time BC Provincial Champion and a Westerns floor champion, Daniel has been part of our sport since kindergarten and was named Gymnast of the Year at his club two years running. He is a Foundations certified coach and a longtime club volunteer. He is now at Queen's University studying mining engineering.

2026 Member of Distinction

Karen Capel began as an athlete and coach in Scotland, coached and judged in Alberta, and spent twenty five years at Quantum Gymnastics here in BC. In 1992, at the age of twenty, she became the youngest certified FIG trampoline judge in the world, and she has represented Canada at international events almost every year since. She has taught judging courses nationally, chaired judging both provincially and nationally, mentored new judges, and served on organizing committees for countless provincial, national and international events.

2026 Life Member

The Life Member Award is GymBC's highest honour, recognizing individuals who have devoted their life's work to bettering gymnastics in British Columbia.

Debbie McBoyle has spent decades inside this organization as a leader, a colleague, a mentor and a constant. She has stood with our community through inter provincial, national and international events hosted in this province since 1994, served on more committees than anyone can count, and has consistently been the person others relied on to keep things moving. 

A Remarkable Milestone

Among our judging pin recipients, Nicky Carroll was recognized for fifty five years of judging. Gymnastics BC was founded in 1969, which means Nicky has been on our panels for very nearly as long as this organization has existed. Generations of WAG athletes in this province have competed in front of her, and many of their coaches did too.

Congratulations as well to every judge recognized this year for milestones ranging from five to forty five years of service. Our sport simply does not run without you.

GymBC Community Awards

Erin Sandland (Delta Gymnastics Society) received the Inclusivity Award for her work as coordinator of Delta's RISE adaptive program, built on the principle that the program adapts to the child rather than the other way around.

Catou Tyler (Whistler Gymnastics) received the True Sport Award for establishing a new full time gymnastics facility in Pemberton, increasing participation in that community by over thirty percent and giving local athletes a permanent home.

Prince George Gymnastics Club was named Volunteer Team of the Year for an extraordinary volunteer effort, including hosting this year's Western Canada Cup.

National Team Recognition

We were proud to recognize the nineteen British Columbia athletes who represented Canada on National Teams this past year across WAG, MAG and Trampoline Gymnastics. These athletes have represented Gymnastics BC, their home clubs and coaches, their families and their communities with distinction on both the national and international stage.
