Pride Month 2025: Everyone Belongs in Gymnastics

June 1, 2025

This June, Gymnastics BC (GymBC) proudly joins organizations across the country in celebrating Pride Month 2025. This is an opportunity to recognize the strength, resilience, and diversity of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and to reaffirm our commitment to inclusion in sport.

Why Pride Month Matters

Pride Month is more than a celebration. It’s a reminder that sport must be a safe, inclusive space for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

In Canadian history, the modern Pride movement was catalyzed by the 1981 Toronto Bathhouse Raids, which sparked public protests and led to the first Toronto Pride march. Since then, Pride has evolved into a nationwide movement for visibility, justice, and community (Historica Canada, 2015; Egale Canada, 2023).

For GymBC, Pride Month is an opportunity to take visible action, educate our members, and create space for authentic connection across our province.

How We’re Celebrating

As part of our Pride Month efforts, GymBC is:

  • Sharing educational resources and tools to support 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion in gymnastics

  • Encouraging clubs to participate in Pride Month via posters, logos, messaging, and storytelling

  • Highlighting the Progress Pride Flag, including its representation of racialized, trans, and intersex communities

  • Providing a Pride Month brand guideline for those who want to participate visually and intentionally

  • Anti-Racism Awareness Week (May 26–June 1)

  • National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Sept 30)
