February 2026 Safe Sport Feature: Clear Complaint Pathways: Ensuring Every Voice is Heard
February 1, 2026
A safe gymnastics community is one where athletes, parents, and coaches know they can raise concerns and be taken seriously. That’s why GymBC provides transparent, accessible complaint and concern pathways.
Steps to File a Complaint:
- Visit the GymBC Concerns & Complaints webpage.
- Review the Complaint Management Handbook and workflow.
- Submit the online form with details (time/date, involved parties, behavior, impact).
- Consider whether other organizations should also be notified (NSO, RCMP, etc.).
Third-Party Management:
All clubs are encouraged to use a third-party complaint handler (not an owner or lead staff) to avoid conflicts of interest.
Tips for Clubs:
- Clearly post complaint procedures on your website.
- Normalize conversations about concerns before they escalate.
- Create regular and turn key feedback mechanisms.
- Be open to criticism, validate member experiences and explore strategies to manage issues.
- Promote tools like the BC Sport Complaint Guidance Tool and Flag Tool to help your members understand how to address issues.
- Reassure members that raising a complaint is a step toward solutions, not punishment.
Why It Matters:
Transparent processes build trust, protect athletes, and help clubs resolve issues fairly.
