August 2026 Safe Sport Feature: Safe HR & Club Administration

August 1, 2026

Behind every safe gym is a strong administrative foundation. Good HR practices protect athletes, staff, and clubs by ensuring consistency and accountability.

Best Practices for Clubs:

  • Hiring: Require Criminal Record Checks (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
  • Training: Provide onboarding and regular professional development.
  • Contracts: Use clear agreements that outline expectations.
  • Performance Reviews: Regular check-ins to support staff growth and accountability. To ensure a broad review, collect performance feedback from peers, athletes and parents.
  • Professional Development: Offer professional development (PD) opportunities such as GymBC courses, trainings, webinars – especially during events such as GymBC Coach Pro-D Day.

Why It Matters:

When staff feel supported and expectations are clear, clubs run smoothly and athletes thrive. HR practices are part of safe sport, not just paperwork.
